International Women's Day 2022

Every year on March 8th, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world, and acts as a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

As a business committed to and proud of the diversity in our teams, equality in the industry and beyond is something close to our hearts so we relish the opportunity to support and celebrate it wherever we can.

This year’s International Women’s Day’s theme is #BreakTheBias - encouraging a diverse, equitable, and inclusive world free of discrimination, where difference is valued and celebrated; smashing stereotypes; and rejecting discrimination - something which resonates with us in the brewing industry.

The Project

Starting in January, an all-female project team of Monk volunteers have developed a brand new beer for Young Women’s Trust, a feminist organisation working towards achieving economic justice and a fairer working future for young women. .

Young women are at the centre of the charity’s work, leading, designing, and participating. The charity campaigns for young women’s equality in the workplace, based on research that examines what young women’s lives are really like.

Northern Monk will be supporting Young Women’s Trust with a £5,000 Faith in Futures Foundation grant, and women from the team will be using time from our "Giving Back Days" initiative to work with Young Women's Trust as volunteers providing feedback on young women’s CVs and job applications.

The Beer

With accessibility at its core, the team combined elements of two recent big-hitters, Cubitt’s Stream of Consciousness IPA and SKGN Dream Line Forms 7 on a mid-ABV, super-silky and juicy pale ale with Idaho 7, Citra, El Dorado, and Cashmere.

The label features 16 women from history - nominated by each member of the IWD Project Team - who have Broken the Bias and contributed to women’s equality.
